Aphids under
glass can be controlled by parasitic wasps (we supply APHIDIUS
and PRAON) all the year round, and by predatory larvae of the 2-spotted
ladybird ADALIA and the midge
APHIDOLETES
from spring to autumn. Although these biocontrols are native species,
control
outdoors is less predictable as environmental factors such as heavy
rain, predatory
birds, hyperparasitic wasps etc. will affect success. We don't supply
adult ladybirds as they are likely to fly out of the greenhouse.
Aphids moult as they grow and the shed skins drop to the upper surface of the leaf below. These white skins can be confused with whitefly, for which a different control is needed. See the pictures on the whitefly page if in doubt. |
