GLASSHOUSE WHITEFLY (Trialeurodes vaporariorum) |
ENCARSIA FORMOSA, a tiny Aphelinid wasp, parasitises the developing scales. Use on protected crops, houseplants, etc., not outdoors. Minimum day temperature 18C (64F) Encarsia are supplied as pupae in black parasitised scales on leaf. Adult Encarsia live for about 14 days, attacking scales at a specific stage, about 2-3 weeks old, and about 10 days later the parasitised scales turn black. The Encarsia lifecycle takes about a month from egg to adult, so to ensure that adult wasps are continuously working on the scales you should introduce a second batch of Encarsia two weeks after the first to fill the gap until your first home-bred ones emerge.
