The Australian
Coccinellid (ladybird) beetle CRYPTOLAEMUS MONTROUZIERI attacks
the common species of mealybug (Planococcus citri, Pseudococcus
affinis).
Both adults and larvae eat all stages of the pests.

Various parasitic wasps, e.g. LEPTOMASTIX EPONA can also be used but are more specific, so please send a sample of the mealybug adults in a crush-proof container for identification first. Pack sizes and prices vary according to species. For scale insects (Coccus hesperidum, Saissetia coffeae etc.) various parasites and predators are available, but again the species must be identified first, see above. Pack sizes and prices vary, typically about £14 for 25 parasites. ALL predators and parasites for mealybugs and scales need a minimum temperature of 20C (68F) to be active, preferably higher, limiting most customers to summer use. |
